If you registered it, and it has the ring of death, it's covered, warranty or not. I got mine OG Xbox replaced twice out of warranty. Red Ring is supposed to be covered especially if you never got it serviced.

I dunno why you wouldn't even try calling first. I always check, never paid nothing.

It was plugged into an outlet controlled by a light switch and I accidentally flipped it off and back on real quick. I wanted to cry lol but all I had to do was restart it.

so i talked to xbox today for atleast 3 and half hours, they would not waive the 100 dollar fee. they said the warrant on my original xbox expired, mind you i gave them my original xbox that i purchased becuz it had three rings, how i can keep warranty on something i gave them? the xbox they gave me, i got in oct 2008 from them. that was the 2nd xbox i got from them, three xboxs in total all getting red rings. this would be the fourth. i told them i would accept hundred dollars worth of ms points, and give them a hundo, i told them i would accept hundred dollars worth of xbox live, and give them a hundo, all decline, i literally said i wasn't getitng off the phone until this was fixed. shirly seemed cool, but fuck Microsoft. eventually they hung up and i called back. the second person said a supervisor would call me back, certain shit happened i just said fuck it and went on with my day. but i do plan to call every day until this is fixed. i will buy another xbox fresh out the box and still call about this one i'm not letting this go.

And for sure..Keep calling. But idk what all you can get out of it. If it's out of warranty, you've always had to pay about $100 since the past 2 years or so if you get the RROD. Only hope of getting out of it, or paying less, would be to get someone cool on the phone that can bend some rules.

When you get a new xbox though..Just make sure you get it from a place like Best Buy, and get a Best Buy warranty on it. That's the best. I had a system that red ringed one time, took it into Best Buy, they did a test and saw it had the red ring, so I went and grabbed a brand new xbox off the shelf free of charge.

New xbox's seem to be pretty good and not have many problems that I've heard of, so you should be good with them.
