    SS07 Week 2 Mag

    Sacred Scriptures 2007
    Week 2 Magazine.

Well, week one is over and SS is looking the best it has in a while. We’re still lacking some really deep competition but we have a lot of people that may turn out to be up and comers. The no-shows haven’t been a huge problem yet and there have been some pretty good match-ups. Overall I’d say week one started with a bang, and once we get our really skilled heads signing back in, this is gonna be a really, really good league.

Just wanted to say, congratulations to Nique and Born to Kill on retaining their championships, and to let the SS know it came as a surprise to me too, that the Golden Script is now vacant. We all know Nique will be back, just wish there was a way the title could have been held for her. There is no Golden Script championship this week, to be honest, I didn’t think it should be as easy as one match for whoever the new holder will be so I made two contender matches, winners square off for the title next week. Check out whose up against who, make your predictions.

Also welcome to all the new people in the league, Quotient, Miss Behaving, Tony B – Write hard because it may not look like it yet, but this truly is the most difficult league on RB. And I urge you all, don’t no-show; we’re strong without them, don’t ruin a good thing.

Anyway, this is your Wk02 magazine, hope you enjoy –
    And goodluck during the week!

    - Kevin aka tik

    Re: SS07 Week 2 Mag

    The Best of the Best
    Verse of the Week

    Engivale “Who am I”

This piece came off as minimalist, but since when was that bad? He took a topic and approached it in a manner that worked very well for his structure and style, not to mention he demonstrated his ability to write fluidly even in a shorter bar structure. The rhyme scheme started slow but picked up almost immediately with some really, really slick lines. If Engivale can continue to elevate his game he will be champ of this league in no time.

    Who Am I?

    "I think, Therefore I Am."

Am I a friend in need?
    The Responsible One?
Or do I pretend to lead
    When I'm already done...
Am I the kid that laughed?
    Am I the quiet Teen?
Or am I rid of my past,
    No more misguided Dream...
Am I afraid of the fight?---
Or am I bold and determined?
    Love is painful, I write
When my heart is cold and uncertain...
    Am I the confident Guy?
Or the one who was wrecked?
    Colored white's my compliment lie,
There's just no fun in respect...

    I'm eager for love,
    but yet I leave her for drugs;
    I'm the addict who's
    Problematic soakin' Ether in Rugs...
I shake if I sit still,
    Cuz my trachea slits filled
    With Weed smoke for my
Lead joke and the shit's KILL!
    I'm the nervous guy sweating
While this curb is my bedding---
    I trust few,
Why must you be so upsetting?
    I turn over facts
    While I learn to Relax...
    My future's coming,
The Use for Running is Past...

    Am I a Nice Guy?
Do I deserve what I've Got?
If I have to ask Twice I
Guess I can learn what I've Taught...
    Value is Soul,
May Karma allow you the Role
    Of compassionate Human
    Takin' back what they stole...

    Re: SS07 Week 2 Mag

    The Best of the Best
    Runner-Up

    Maven “Untitled”

Maven had one or two issues with flow here or there, but still was much better than most of the league. His story was original and the entire verse just had an overall more enjoyable quality. Maven has championed this league before – and this verse was just one indication why.

    "Untitled"

I realized it all began with the telephone call
a wrong number, perhaps, but it led to me to my fall
and bred in me a wall,
one I couldn't move or conquer,
No matter what I said, I just couldn't lose the talker:
"Is Patrick Grant there?" the cool metallic voice glistened
reflecting in my mirror ears; in choice I said: "Listen,
the only person in this room who shares that name,
bears that shame bare-backed and impairs that aim
    is myself;
I am Patrick Grant; that is not my real name
its one I impersonate, another pawn in the game
and it's spawning disdain-disguise is a powerful weapon
no motives can be unmasked; they're gone in 60 seconds."
The talker (for that's what it was, no he or she spoke)
stood silent and I quote, said, "Your answer seems remote
and has eloped far away from visions of reality
so that none of your decisions are or are not cowardly.
You are who you are not; you are never who you are
but at once you are both and neither...
So who sees the near as far?"
"I can," I proceeded in a southerly direction
"and that is all that counts"-I doubted the other's subjection
of myself to interpretation without even a name
the receiver was placed patiently into its home again.

When Patrick finished telling me the tale I was shocked
he was holding the keys to his apartment, but his mind unlocked
and as he shoved the heavy door open faster than time allowed
I grew to understand what I'm relating to you now:
Grant is not himself but is never not himself
and this fact he reveals only to friends and strangers
    when everything is meaningless,
    only meaning holds a danger.

He finished reading the author's verse, minimized the forum window
trying desperately to make sense of delineated info-
but he couldn't, and finding he himself was filled with hoax,
reread the article several times but couldn't bring himself to vote.

    Observing the Top
    Champs in Review

    Golden Script Championship

    Nique vs. Evolve

This match-up had everything required to make a blockbuster week one championship match. Nique and Evolve are two of the greatest writers in the SS and yet neither one of them dropped anything worthy of the champ match. But, it’s hard not to understand where they’re coming from. School/Work/Family/Friends all got in the way and prevented Evolve from even showing, causing Nique to post only what was needed at the very last minute. In the end Nique retained her Golden Script Championship increasing her overall “Weeks as Champion” to 2, only to sign out for spring break. I’d expect her back within the next few weeks, and be sure – she’ll bring the same ol’ fire we’ve come to expect.

    Silver Script Championship

Born to Kill vs. Baron P. Mortuus

This match-up was one that I thought very appropriate for the Silver Script, both have established themselves as prominent writers and both have been capable of bringing some really good material. This week, wasn’t much different. It seemed like Born to Kill is venturing away from his standard rhyme scheme, you can tell, the flow faltered in one or two areas but you can see the bone-work or frame; once he has the rhythm down he’ll be an even better writer than he already was. This being said, Baron P. didn’t have much chance. He came with a decent verse, but with Born to Kill’s originality while writing about something everyone seemed to agree was real – Baron P’s decency wasn’t enough to grab the title. In the end Born to Kill retained his title and added another notch to his belt.

    Re: SS07 Week 2 Mag

    The "It-List"
    Top 10 Power Ranks

    10. Tim
Tim is one of the most underrated members of this league due to his inconsistency. He writes really well, or nothing more than decent. I haven’t decided whether or not this was because he is generally pressed for time or if he is just naturally that hit or miss. Either way when he brings it he could pose trouble for the most veteran writers in this league, lets just hope he can get his abilities locked down.

    9. K
K has been champion of SS before, he’s a very solid topical writer, but he’s been away for a while getting his own site up and running. I’m unsure how much time he’s actually put into keeping himself fresh and he may come off just a little bit rusty. His first week back will have to be the deciding factor in how strong he actually is, either way, I wouldn’t take K as light competition.

    8. The Witness
Suffering from the same problem as Tim, The Witness finds himself with an equal number of wins and losses. In any other situation this would result in him not even making the Top 10 Power Ranks until you look at who he’s beaten… Brixton, Evolve, Phrantik… He has established himself as a giant killer – and it wont be long until he makes his own name as well known as the people he’s beat.

    7. Johnny 6-Feet
Not having much of a debut for his first match back due to no-show he has still displayed he has something left in the tank. A former champion who I thought would return rusty came back with nothing but a squeak in the hinges. Johnny has what it takes to make a run for the title, but with the growing level of competition in the league will he ever win it again? Only time will tell.

    6. Born to Kill
The Silver Script Champion, and with reason. Born to Kill is an RB legend in the topical scene, he is one of the most original writers currently on the roster and is able to bring it time and time again. Last week we witnessed him try something new with his flow, and if he can get it as fluid as his simpler structure he’ll be a major force who’ll quickly climb these power rankings.

    5. Abbadon
An alias. Abbadon has already established himself as a solid writer in the SS and until he allows me to say more – this is all the write up he gets.

    4. Evolve
Time is Evolve’s number one concern. After a no-show in last weeks Golden Script Championship the new schedule will hopefully work out a little better for him. Evolve is able to write very fluid rhymes with a fantastic content to boot. He’s nailed the formal elements of writing and he could make an entire verse one giant metaphor if he wanted.

    3. Quotient
He’s back – this time reassuring me that he’ll show. We can all hope so. Quo signed into the tournament cocky, and no one thought he could back it up – then right in front of their faces he pulled a huge win out over Born to Kill. He’s original and can flow with the best, in fact, when Atticus faced Quotient in the tourney – he admitted that even he wasn’t sure if he could beat him. When Quotient brings it, not many in this league are on his level.

    2. Maven
Maven is the comeback kid. Like all WordPerfect heads he disappears every now and then. This time he resurfaced with power. Quickly dismantling some of the best in the SS. In his return debut Maven beat the nearly undefeated Nahlidge to go 1 and 0. Now with a record 2 and 0, it wont be long until Maven finds himself in Champ matches all over the place.

    1. Engivale
Mr. Controversy. If it isn’t Atticus it’s Johnny 6-Feet and when it’s not him who will it be? Engivale has given himself the reputation as “that guy to beef with”. And he writes even better than he argues. With one of the most consistent flows in the league and an constantly fresh style Engivale is quickly building his name among RB’s finest. Despite unpopularity few can deny that he is a force to be taken very, very seriously.
