For this next season, I want to hear any ideas that you may have that could be incorporated into the season....
just a thought
perhaps an in house award showcase at the end of the season
Categories (rough draft)
- best voter (most quality and consistent voter)
- most improved (which writer shown the most improvement over the season)
- Rookie Award (best newcomer to the league)
- top 3 of the season. (basically bronze / silver / gold . . best 3 verses of the season)
- MVP (who dominated the majority of weeks)
- Longest win streak holder (who held the most consecutive weeks in a row)
- biggest tool (no explination needed. . . this will be reserved for biters and douche bags)
- Battle of the season (self explained)
- SS All Star (who showed the most passion, determination, and overall activity and dedication to the league)
- SS Predictions (who consistently made the best outcome predictions)
- Best in attendence (who showed up to every battle and participated week in and week out)
- Story Teller Award (which verse showed the best story or the most origional concept)
perhaps can make a small showcase out of it to stick in the hall of champions or somewhere
other then that. . it would be cool to see tag team battles at some point
I would like to have all-stars chosen as they may not fit in any of the above categories but the effort, drive and dedication puts them in this category
@143
I edited my original post to draft some ideas for the end of season award showcase
feel free to add or remove anything you want from the draft
It sucks that there could be a "best in attendance" feels like those little certificates the school gives you if you don't miss any days. haha
I agree with like an "All-Stars", "MVP" and a "All-Rookie Team" or Rookie of the month/year
I like the Writer of the Week
No more check-in rules. It's ruining leagues on this site by eliminating good competition way too early over such a petty charge.
We have to have check in rules because it gives us a chance to have more options of recombining matches, changing topics so that the recombined battle is on a even playing field. It holds all battlers to some responsibility to show up and be active. It's an indicator to say I'm here literally takes 5 seconds to do which shows activity. There is no way to have the PM that goes out that says that you have a battle to be used as a check in or I would love to do that because it is directly sent to you instead of me or any mod tagging people. @ILLunatic is there some way that the message that goes out when a battle is set register also as that person checking in when they accept it?
No nigga, no.
You NEVER recombine battles in a league that has less than 20 people on the roster.
Long story short, it reduces the competition for Contenders. If you keep recombining battles then you'll eventually have more losers than winners and you'll find yourself running in circles trying to make battles for the next week.
Dudes are losing a battle, falling from Champ. Winning a battle. And going right back to Contenders. It's wack as hell, and in order to control these leagues you moderators need to start using logical approaches to how to structure the battle-system.
But, it's your world. I'll just be here reaping the benefits, as a competitor I guess.
In this current format it works. This first four weeks is purely seeding so for instance, enclave and late bloomer will face each other again and if they end up tied, it would come down to votes as far as seeding because in the long run of things, it is up to your talents to make you the clear winner. Now didn't you last season asked for a battle to be recombined for a three way match? So at one end you have to decide if you want recombined matches or you don't but even without recombining, check ins is a must for the overall league and it again goes back to the responsibility of the competitor to get this in. 5 seconds, that's all.
No, I never asked you to recombine. I asked you to let the tournament structure play out naturally. You were the one that recombined, and took yourself out of the playoffs which left us with an odd number of people in the playoffs.
I'm not agreeing with you but I'll let it rest. I just can't see why you want to subtract competition out of the league with a petty check-in rule instead of a simple verse-deadline. The competitors only responsibility is to post a verse on time. Dudes might log on a day after the check-in deadline and still write a good ass verse and win their battle, but by your check-in rule they wouldn't have the opportunity.
but really how hard is it to checkin?? it just shows you put more effort in by saying yes i recognize we are battling on said date...... its not really that hard is it??
Yo, who cares how hard it is. Explain the purpose of a check-in and maybe I'll be on board with it.
Great writers are working long hours, not finding the time to log on for a few days and are DQ'ed over a check-in. That's my issue with it. Life happens, and the check-in rule makes things more inconvenient due to the steep consequence that follows. Recombining battles is'nt natural. In the NFL there is no recombining. In the NBA there is no recombining. This is a league just like they are leagues, let's run it like it then.
@OG Maestro
What you are talking about is a matter of convenience. You would take more time texting someone than checking in. Also I plays to RESPONSIBILITY. You are saying I will be here to take you on. In the light of the site it shows activeness, not a deep representation but when you see battles checked in you see people participating whether you drop or not. But check ins has been in this site since I've been on this site. This is the problem because people don't want to put effort to do something and it should be automatic as such. It never makes sense to make the penalty less that DQ because in the scope of things, you signed up and it's has always been expected of you to check in and show up. It also make the excuse of that I didn't know when the post or when to vote dead. It acknowledge that you are aware of timeframes and rules. But the real issue is no shows. Great writers do what they have to do to be great. But in the instance of this league, I will be recombining battles because battles mean more now since people are no showing and I don't want their effort to be for not and checking in is a big part of the process to create some type of activity.
Does somebody hear a dead horse getting beat?
Shut the fuck up, you're not saying anything productive here you're just being a damn child.

No shows are not relevant to this discussion when it's about check-ins, but I agree with you that that's the real issue. But here's an issue: when someone that would have posted by the deadline didn't check-in due to their life being busy and gets DQ'ed. You are trying to be old-school but this isn't 2008 or 2011, you need to be more convenient for the new times and adapt.
And recombining battles creates more Losers than Winners, 143. In a normal league, it's a week-to-week basis with Contenders and Champ. Recombining doesn't work in that respect. That's my whole point. That's my idea for what would be good for the league.
You say you don't want people to write verses for no reason but they'll get a NS win, and that's a win no matter how it's achieved.
Recombining battles destroys the structure of leagues and tournaments.
Look at what happened to the last season's playoffs. Yes, the no shows were terrible but the recombining made it worse.
Recombining battles in a tournament would deconstruct the natural progression of a tournament bracket.
Recombining battles in the regular season of a league would create more losers than winners. Let's say you had a 8 person league: 2 in champ, 2 in contenders, 4 in regular battles. If the 2 regular battles were no shows and you recombined them into 1 regular battle, when 1 person wins...who the fuck is he going to battle for Contenders? The loser? AGAIN? That makes 0 sense.
Don't like recombining battles from failure to check in, then check in; simple fix.
To me recombining is the only medicine for no shows. For this stage of the league it is needed to place seeding for the next stage of the league. I will never have someone who lost their champ or contenders match get a chance to come back the next week for another shot. I would give a shot to the best loser of that week who wasn't in the match to compete for the contenders. People do go off of records but I have this 3 week rule about rematching battles. But again it all has to do with activity because no shows make it hard to not end up with the same battle because they may be the most active in the league then how do you not reward them for being active vs taking someone who no shows all the time and put them in the contenders match.
As in the case of last season, everyone no showed except two people. What if those two weren't in the same battle? then you would have essentially have a dead week. How does that fair for competition and one the expectation that everyone will show up. The check in is about communication. Now in the sense of life playing a part, there has never been an issue if I have a pm that tells me that you missed the check in date but you still intend to post. I have received some pm like that and that person wasn't dq but the thing is if life does happen, how am I or any mod is supposed to know that you are going to drop in the timeframe given without you notifying us in any way. I never have been one to hold issues like that against people but it has to clearly be communicated to me so that I can make adjustments. Even if you check in and you tell me that you have some things that need to be handled, I will work with you to get that verse in because the league need posts to be attractive for others to come and compete.
So here is what I will propose as to the no check in, if you don't check in you lose a vote and if you don't contact me or post in the chat that you still intend to post you will be dq'ed and if you do state that you will post but you don't you will be dq'ed for that week and lose a vote for the next week. If you miss check in do to life issues but communicate that you will post you will not earn any penalty. If it becomes an issue for multiple weeks then you will be signed out. Don't want to have issues with people taking advantage of this.
YOU HAVE TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE LEAGUE TO MAKE SURE THAT YOUR INTENTIONS ARE CLEAR AND THAT'S WHAT MAKE THE LEAGUE EITHER BE SUCCESSFUL OR A WASTE OF TIME....
