Re: Producers/Beatmakers... what is your setup?
watchu mean no more FL..like its a bad thing? im lost :(
-
Re: Producers/Beatmakers... what is your setup?
it's not a bad thing, I still encourage people to use it if they are REAL comfortable with it...
it's just too confining for the veteran producer, and I've been a avid user since version 1. (I NEVER cared about the stigma that came with using it... I've made tons of hot tracks with it)
But truth be told....
There are alot of options that are quicker, and more powerful than FLStudio. I can't use JUST FLStudio anymore. It's wayyyyyy too much of a hassle to use any type of hardware with FL. The audio clips system is like chinese algebra. Too complicated to record a simple riff or note. Then the MIDI isnt rock solid, the automation is too complicated, and the quality just isnt there, compared to other systems, it just sounds like a veil is over the track in FL. The audio engine leaves much to be deisred in comparison to something like Logic, or Nuendo.
I was using it in conjunction with Nuendo... but as a rewire client, You have to have a dual screen setup to be comfortable. Then i realized, that your drums sound 130% percent better when they're imported into nuendo. So... then i started using FL as a VST plugin within Nuendo, just to use it's browser to drag and drop drums and samples. That presented the problem of sequencing manually within Nuendo, it's worth it cuz of the quality increase and control you have over your drums... but it's time consuming, and can suck away from the "creative inspiration".
In comes Battery 3...
I never looked back at FLStudio. I can do my sampling, and drums in battery... sequence it all through MIDI within Nuendo... and easily use my keyboards, and hardware fx all at once with ease.
next on my list is gettin FXpansion Guru... it has a built in sequencer within it, and has all the depth and ease of Battery. Eliminating yet another step, making my ideas flow quicker, allowing me to put out my best stuff while the inspiration is still there.

Re: Producers/Beatmakers... what is your setup?
If you ever try to track a piano player through midi in FL... you'll quickly realize how funny the midi acts, and how tedious it is to make corrections due to no true smart quantizing. The pattern system is also hampering in a situation like that. In Nuendo, it's like 2 clicks to get it going after its setup, as opposed to FL were it's like 5, then if you want to add some automation... good luck.
but like i said... I'm a veteran producer.

Re: Producers/Beatmakers... what is your setup?
i need to write a book about effective methods of making tracks.

it's not about "hotter"...
it's about workflow, and ability to get your ideas out faster.
which is just as important. Beats always come out hotter when the ideas and inspiration is flowing constantly.
less throw away beats = bigger catalog of hot beats = more potential to make money, or get placements.
plus since i moved to a predominately sample free production style, its alot easier for me.
some of the gear i use would be rendered useless if i was restricted to fruity.
my point is, you can only use it comfortably to a certain point.

Thats wussup, you just goin for the 2 year degree? Pretty sure they started a masters program there... I'm still thinkin bout droppin out ucf and hittin that bitch up before it's too late to be an option.

Re: Producers/Beatmakers... what is your setup?
i might do the masters program if I'm not deep into something else yet. the scool is crazy tho. you hve to be 100% dedicated or you'll fail.... and I don't mean pretending to yourself that you're dedicated. It's 24/7 eat drink and breathe Full Sail.

Re: Producers/Beatmakers... what is your setup?
I have a question.. Kris, Brandon, Opey.. Do you all teach yourself this shit? I know more about Audio then the average person, but I mean.. I had to learn off somebody.. namely, Brandon.. But how the fuck ya'll niggas know this?
And Opey, I been thinking of majoring in Audio Engineering, but niggas been telling me its not a realistic career.. What are you majoring in?
-
Re: Producers/Beatmakers... what is your setup?
I learned alot while recording... and just sitting back and asking the engineer questions... reading... talking to Fatman and Kris... mainly Kris... but audio engineering is a stupid realistic career... from music... to movies... to concerts etc etc... and Opey is majoring in gross fat counts...

I think we all learn off each other. There's also a lot of readig books, reading and watching tutorials, paying attention and talking to the house engineer when you're in a studio, etc.
I'm completing my Associates in Recording Arts, then I'm pursuing a Bachelors in Music Business. There are plenty of jobs out there for people in the field. You don't even consider how many things need sound and how many people need someone to give them the sound they need. Being strictly a Hip-Hop studio engineer is a tough career. I wouldn't depend on it. But there are tons of jobs out there for anyone with talent, education (not just school) and good work ethic. Don't let anyone tell you not to do what you want because it's far fetched. If you know you love it then do it ad never question your decision. If you're not sure you want to devote your life to it then you're not ready to jump in.
