Well, that and killing Hip Hop.
(To the people who said the 'net has done nothing but help the industry, you are 100% right. Illegal downloading is just a term that defines things that have gone on for years, most people started with taping their LPs for their cars and passing the tape on. Of course it has now increased probably 1,000,000 times, but the artists are also getting a ridiculous amount of free advertising and marketing on thousands of hip-hop, video sharing, and also just your general websites. How can that do them wrong? They lose but there's so many more chances for them to win.)
Re: The internet killed Hiphop
illegal cds have taken so much money away from the industry
people bootleg everything
Or Mp3 it for free
were is the money for the artist after that?
Its cut the profit in half
Re: The internet killed Hiphop
and shut the fuck up seriously... HipHop isn't dead. there's still fire comin' out... Common, Nas, Chamillionaire, Joe Budden just dropped... Royce has BEEN dropping flames... Jay-Z, Dre, Em, AND 50 are coming out with shit still...
it isn't even REMOTELY close to dead. underground and mainstream are both steadily moving still. quit trying to make an excuse (saying it's dead) to try and get other people to accept you.

if you're in music for a ridiculous amount of profit from the very beginning, you need to get your feet back on the ground.

You do realize that a lot of mainstream artists have caught on and intentionally "leak" songs or whole albums on purpose then release the real deal right?
