Autumn Falls
Teeth chatter, wind bites, mornings spent under covers
As foliage reluctantly converts to crisp apple colors
Long days fade away as chilled haze dims the bright
White caps top the grass and glaze glass that spent the night
A single bird sings his call, but left with no response
For his echos left in droves flying south to warmer haunts
A pair of snowflakes do a waltz as they spiral slowly down
Landing atop a rusted slide, morphing to droplets sliding down.
Leaves crunch under the weight of brisk morning's appeal
Yesterday's sunny disposition vanished by sunrise's reveal
Breath caught in your chest, as your exhale lingers
Tingling palms rubbed together, friction warming numb fingers
Flushed cheeks like red lights, pleading for indoor relief
But the calming release, of morning quiet brings peace
Patterns shift, moods swing, and memories recalled
A change in temperament, as Autumn falls over all.
